Viewpoint - May 2025

Duncan Pagan, Consultancy Services Director, shares an update with our Spring newsletter.

It’s hard to believe that we are in May already - where does the time go? May of course means BIBA, and we look forward to welcoming you to our usual Hedron lunch at the Midland Hotel. A little breather from the frantic conference environment and a chance to meet up with your fellow Partner Brokers. Don’t forget that you can bring other brokers that may be interested in joining Hedron and they may qualify for an intro bonus of up to £5000. Registration is via the Hub.

World events have dominated the headlines in the last few weeks and fueled an unprecedented sense of uncertainty around world trade in the future. This will have knock on effects globally, and particularly on your clients that export goods to any significant degree where their activity and exposures may change dramatically.

Our HIVE event in March was well and truly buzzing with a record attendance and thousands of progressive conversations taking place. It was a great opportunity to talk with several brokers, and encouragingly there was a high sense of positivity and optimism despite the challenging economic backdrop. Brokers also pointed to an uptick in client business failures which is a concern, especially as the recent Budget has yet to make its own additional impact.

On the theme of business failure, we have a very timely article from our colleagues at Xenia about Credit Risk – a subject that may be very important to your clients, so certainly worth a read.

We also feature a topical article on lithium-ion batteries, which are emerging as a significant fire risk for insurers with claims up a whopping 46%. Increased adoption of this battery type will be a key cause, but read on to understand how these are not your average fire risks.

And with resilience in mind, we have included some handy pointers from the Hedron compliance team on tips to improve the regulatory resilience of your business.

I hope you enjoy the newsletter, and as always we are happy to take requests for any articles or topics you would like us to feature going forwards – just email marketing@hedronnetwork.co.uk.

See you at BIBA.
